Welcome to Shep's on 6th's Loyal Order of the Elbows (LOE), where the traditional greeting involves exchanging a single elbow instead of the typical wave or high five. With over 23,000 Elbow members, the LOE stands as the most disorganized organization around. This unique initiation sets the tone for a one-of-a-kind experience at Shep's on 6th.
The LOE Origins
Discover the roots of LOE, dating back to the Spring of 1991 at Bob Leff & Geno Worms' Happy Hour Bar in Brainerd, MN. Coined by Bob Danzl, inspired by his 6:00 curfew to avoid his wife's cooking mishaps, the term "Elbow" became the essence of the LOE. This informal group, born over a few nights of fine-tuning bylaws, added a logo, pins, buttons, and an elbow stamp. Thus, the Loyal Order of the Elbows came into existence.
Your Elbow Number
Every LOE member gets a special lifetime Elbow number, a unique identifier that's yours forever. Whether you keep it in your memory or on the card you receive, this number holds the key to perks like a free drink when asked by a bartender. It's a simple tradition that adds a personal touch to your LOE experience, and your number card becomes a keepsake, a tangible reminder of your connection to the spirited community at Shep's on 6th.
Elbow Tattoo
Express your connection to the LOE vibe by getting the official stamp or LOE logo tattooed on your elbow. More than just ink, this tattoo is a lasting symbol of your experience in the vibrant LOE community. Once it's on, enjoy a free drink every time you step into Shep's on 6th.
The Elbow Convention
Celebrate the vibrant spirit of LOE during the annual Elbow Convention held during the last weekend of August at Shep's on 6th. This two-day extravaganza features cover bands and is a humorous and cherished tradition that brings the community together. We ask all our Elbow members to come back and join in the festivities, making it a reunion of laughter, shared memories, and, of course, elbow greetings.
The Grand Elbow
Your Current Grand Elbow is 1G
The Grand Elbow (GE) is instrumental in nurturing a sense of unity and companionship within the Loyal Order of Elbows. Responsibilities include overseeing Order activities, actively participating in events, cultivating an inclusive atmosphere, and evaluating potential enhancements to the group's ethos. The exclusive privilege of giving the Double Elbow is reserved for GEs, while past Grand Elbows (XGEs) provide ongoing guidance, contributing to the organization's continuity and collective identity.
